Earth Day

Happy Earth Day, everyone!  Please do something kind for the planet and its inhabitants today (or any day, or both, or every day).  Here are some fun ideas:

1. Sponsor an animal at Farm Sanctuary, like Khrush, our rooster.  Farm Sanctuary's motto is a lovely thought to keep in mind: "A compassionate world begins with you."

2. Eat vegetarian for a day (just one day-- you can do it!).

3. The next time you need to mail something, make a mailer out of repurposed grocery bags.  The tutorial to do so is here, on Crafting a Green World.

4. Instead of buying factory-made gifts the next time someone you love has a birthday, buy something handmade, or make something yourself.  More information here.  (I'm pledge signer number 40564.)

5. The next time you get a hole in an article of clothing, put a funky patch on it instead of throwing it away.  Or cut it up and turn it into napkins.  (See how to do that here.)

Now go outside and enjoy the day!

  1. Or rescue some worms from an unkind fate: baking to death in the heat of the sun until their shriveled corpses are nothing but a wormsmear on sidewalks everywhere. Worms are some of our best friends. Which is why you should start vermicomposting, too.

  2. And to learn about vermicomposting, check out the blog "Crafting a Green World," linked to above and below right. Yay worms!

  3. Speaking of holes in clothing your little nephew got ahold of the scissors that his older brother left out and he cut a hole in his sock - good thing he didn't cut a hole in his foot!

I didn't give in to the urge to turn on the heat even though the house is freezing!
